I just read the article about taking measures because of the accident in Vantaa about the folding beds, instructions and what so ever is not enough. These beds have to be removed from daycares at any cost!!! A label or instructions will not prevent another little child from being stuck in and dead-

Thank you for your feedback. I fully understand that the serious accident that occurred in Vantaa has caused considerable concern also among guardians in Espoo. The incident has been deeply distressing for both families and early childhood education professionals.
In Espoo, measures were taken immediately after the accident. Soon after the incident daycare centres were given strict safety instructions regarding the use of fold down beds, and guardians were informed. The instructions have been further specified as additional information has been received from the authorities.
We are currently conducting a more detailed assessment, as fold down beds are not all the same. Their manufacturers, models and operating mechanisms vary, and due to their structure, some beds may not allow a situation similar to the one that occurred in Vantaa. A comprehensive understanding of the situation is essential in order to target the measures appropriately.
In addition, we are closely monitoring the measures taken by neighbouring municipalities and the information provided by the Accident Investigation Authority (Otkes), and we will take further action if necessary.
We are also continuing to review the space planning guidelines for rest arrangements in new and renovated daycare centres.
We take this matter extremely seriously, and in our operations, safety always comes first.
Sincerely,
Ulla Lehtonen
